ABSTRACT
Up to now the most common column support systems for a cooling tower are diagonal frameworks with different inclination. Their efficiency is well known and proved by use in many cooling towers all over the world. Since 20 years also radial support columns are increasingly used for different reasons, especially in countries like Germany and France. However, a few doubts remain about their applicability in areas prone to earthquakes.
