ABSTRACT

Many buildings have basement and most of them are surrounded by continuous perimeter walls. The basement stories with RC peripheral walls and rigid diaphragms is called as rigid basement. In buildings with RC peripheral walls in their basement and basement floor behaving as rigid diaphragm in their horizontal direction, seismic loads are determined based on the mass of upper stories from the top of basement floor according to Turkish Seismic Code 2007 (TSC 2007) and Eurocode 8 (EC 8).
