ABSTRACT

It is well know that interlayer slip between the components of composite beams significantly affects the structural response. In order to prevent slip-locking in finite element analysis of composite beams consistent interpolation strategy was employed in Dall’Asta and Zona (2002), in which additional internal nodes are needed. An advantage of the meshfree methods e.g., Belytschko et al (1994) over the finite element method is that the polynomial order of the shape functions is not directly associated with the number of the nodes used, and at each integration point the shape functions of a displacement field can be produced to exactly match with the derivatives of the shape functions of another displacement field in order to eliminate locking in multi-field problems. This approach was first introduced in Donning and Liu (1998) to alleviate shear-locking.
