ABSTRACT

The theory of free-streamlines and the theorem of Schwarz-Christoffel are presented. They are applied to flows with separation.

1 PRESENTATION

In flow situations involving straight boundaries, the application of the theorem of SchwarzChristoffel and of the theory free-streamlines may provide a technique to solve analytically the flow. A typical example is the flow through an orifice (Fig. 3.1A). Figure 7.1 illustrates some flow situations with separation which may be studied using the method of free streamlines. For example, the flow through a sharp orifice, the flow past a flat plate, and the flow past an object with separation. The movie IMGP0123.mov illustrates the flow past a triangular sharp-crested weir (App. F).
