ABSTRACT

One of the main tasks of the e-navigation, in accordance with the definition proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), is to increase the safety of the ship while sailing from point A to B. The experience of previous years, in particular the spectacular sea accidents of the twentieth century, indicate that very often first must come to the tragedy, before the changes in the rules, procedures and equipment were introduced. This time, in line with e-Navigation system, group of people working on the creation of system, wants to be one step ahead of a possible tragedy. Based on experience, statistics and reports on incidents from previous years, they are trying to design a system that will actually prevent accidents. In this paper, author describes, how the introduction of eNavigation and the use of Augmented Reality solutions during a navigational watch on the bridge can increase the level of safety of ships at sea. Additional information, which navigator can get, it may affect his decisions and reduce the number of collisions and groundings, which are among the most serious incident at sea. Not only threaten to destroy the ship and cargo but very often directly threaten the lives of the crew and the environment.
