ABSTRACT
BIMCO and ISF research supply and demand of the seafarer human resources once every five years. The research report "MANPOWER UPDATE" proved the most comprehensive assessment global supply of and demand for merchant seafarers available. They have two purposes. First, one is to describe the current worldwide supply and demand situation of seafarers. Secondly, one is to make predictions of the likely situation 5 – 10 years in the future, in order to assist the industry to anticipate changes and to take appropriate action. The study was updated since 1995 after evidence was found a significant shortage of officers.
