ABSTRACT

We take the competence/resource-based view of firms for granted (Penrose 1959): the firm is made up from a number of competencies, based on resources, embodied in a configuration of various forms of capital (financial, human, social), which to a greater or lesser extent is idiosyncratic to the firm. It is such unique capabilities of firms that allow them a basis for profit.
