ABSTRACT

What should the mentor know about the group? In this chapter we shall refl ect on the challenges and opportunities that the group context opens up for peergroup mentoring at the various stages of group development. A peer group offers various advantages compared to pair mentoring. The group’s strength lies in its members and the responsive interaction between them. Some members can give you something that would not be possible to receive from people who do not have similar experiences. It is not merely about receiving support but also about offering it to other people who are in the same situation (Pistrang et al., 2008).
