ABSTRACT
So far I have discussed the changing character of war and concluded that the West is trying to make it more humane, to put humanity back in the picture. The West even fights wars for humanity – not as an abstraction as in the past but as individuals and peoples. At the same time, however, war is becoming increasingly inhumane in many parts of the world, and this presents the western community with a dilemma.
