ABSTRACT

In the years immediately following the publication of Sraffa’s book, only a few reviewers recognized its significance. In particular, the reviews by Joan Robinson (Robinson, 1961, 1965b, 1972) and Krishna Bharadwaj (Bharadwaj, 1963; modified version in Harcourt and Laing, 1971) offer valuable insights even today. However, many missed the point; the exact nature of the critique of the neoclassicists was at first completely obscure.1
