ABSTRACT

ACCORDING TO A RECENT REPORT by WebSideStory (https://www.websidestory.com/), a leader in outsourced web analytics, China has the second-largest population of web surfers (6.63 percent) behind the United States (42.65 percent). Japan was close behind with 5.24 percent, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada with about 3.9 percent each over the same time period. The trend indicates a rising internet user population in the Far East (see Figure 7.1). This represents a major shift since the survey in 2001, where Germany accounted for the largest majority of nonUS web surfers with 5.56 percent of all global internet traffic, followed by Canada with 5 percent.
