ABSTRACT

The increasing presence of women in academic economics in the past several decades has had a clear impact on the practice of economics. As more women join the ranks of economists, research in the discipline has been extended and deepened in particular ways. As Rebecca Blank put it

Certainly, female scholars have done a great deal of research on gender-related issues that in all likelihood would not have been as thoroughly explored if only men were in the field. Much of the literature on issues of family, children, and women in the economy has been written because of the interests and presence of women scholars in the profession.
