ABSTRACT

A hundred years ago, Liguria, together with Piedmont and Lombardy, was the protagonist of Italy’s industrialisation process. Since then the focus of economic activity has shifted to the service sector more radically than in the other two angles of the former industrial triangle of Genoa, Turin and Milan. In 1996 industry contributed only 19 per cent to the value added, whereas in Piedmont industry still had a share of 30.6 per cent and in Lombardy 32 per cent.
