ABSTRACT

Analyzed within the multiple stakeholder perspective described in Chapter 1, human resource management has a significant impact on the profitability and survival of the organization itself, and it also has consequences for customers, suppliers, society, and employees (Becker and Huselid, 1998; Donaldson and Preston, 1995; Harrison and St. John, 1996). It can impact virtually all the stakeholders of a company (Becker and Huselid, 1998; Becker et al., 1997; Freeman and Liedtka, 1997; Handy, 1998; Kaplan and Norton, 1996; Useem, 1996; Wood, 1991). Human resource management in IJVs has the potential to be even more important, for it affects several organizations, not just one, and these may be located in several communities (Cascio and Serapio, 1991; Dowling et al., 1999).
