ABSTRACT

While the previous chapter was organised according to three different theoretical approaches – neoclassical, post-Keynesian and Schumpeterian-evolutionary – the presentation of the empirical literature takes a thematic approach. In particular it presents the main empirical facts emerging from the following lines of research:

i) the impact of innovation on growth; ii) the impact of innovation on international competitiveness;

iii) the link between international competitiveness and growth; iv) the impact of specialisation on international competitiveness and economic

growth.
