ABSTRACT

One of the major components of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Electronic Filing System (EFS) is the Patent Application Specification Authoring Tool (PASAT). PASAT is used to author electronic versions of specifications documents consisting of content such as text, titles, and pictures in XML (Extensible Markup Language). The structure is the organizational form that determines which content objects are permitted at any point in a document, as well as how these objects are displayed in various viewers (such as Internet Explorer).
