ABSTRACT
One of the results of World War II had been to accelerate the long overdue recognition of women’s right to equality with men. Some had served in the forces; many had worked in the factories or on the land. Replacing absent men, they had undertaken new responsibilities. Few were prepared, after the war, to put up with traditional, subordinate roles.
