ABSTRACT

Listening is the keystone to developing a musical ear and it provides one of the most accessible entry points for engaging creatively with music. Listening to music can bring joy, energy or tranquility, inspire action, evoke memories or provide an impetus for dance. A major creativity theme that weaves through this chapter is the idea that active listening is a way of making connections and working with the unexpected and the familiar. In classroom music listening, the teacher is invariably bound to the process and thus is well placed to embark on creative and exciting explorations with the class.
