ABSTRACT

Admiral Pound’s last task of 27 June had been to draft a lengthy personal signal to the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean, to summarise the current situation as viewed from London and to give warning of the intended operation off Oran. Transmitted shortly after midnight, it contained little that has not been covered in the account of the events and decisions of 27 June but it provides a useful timed ‘snapshot’ of the First Sea Lord’s views.1
