ABSTRACT

If there is a significant social problem in the U.S., it often becomes a law enforcement problem. Suicide is a significant social problem in the U.S. It is a leading cause of death, particularly among the young and the elderly. In fact, the suicide rate in the U.S. is higher than the homicide rate. Law enforcement officers almost always become involved in suicide situations either just before or after the suicide is threatened or committed. One way or the other, law enforcement will be on the scene.
