ABSTRACT

It is now well established that antipsychotic medications are one of the

mainstays of treatment for psychotic disorders. This has been shown to

be the case for both acute management and maintenance treatment

aimed at reducing relapse (Kane and Marder, 1993). This chapter con-

centrates on the pharmacological aspects of the initial and ongoing

treatment of psychosis (the management of acute arousal in psychosis is

covered in Chapter 7).
