ABSTRACT

Adolescence is a time of tremendous change, growth, risk, and reward. Adolescents themselves worry about whether they are succeeding at current tasks and whether they will make a smooth transition to adulthood. Parents worry about the risks their adolescents may take and whether they are investing enough time and other resources in their children. Policymakers, educators, and program operators worry, too, that many adolescents struggle-at home, at school, and in their communities. They worry as well that too few adolescents achieve their full potential and that the investments our society makes in adolescents are insufficient or ill timed.
