ABSTRACT
That benevolent confessor, the most pious king Saint Louis,146 personally visited this place in devotion, and, pleased with the zeal of these women, arranged with the venerable father, the lord bishop of Tournai, that a church should be consecrated for them, and acquired and conferred on them many privileges and liberties for their devotion, and he established and endowed a Beguinage like this one at Paris, and others in various places. There is also another Beguinage in Ghent, which is called "Oya," and many houses throughout the town where women dwell in a similar situation.
