ABSTRACT

Thursday, April 6, 1995 It was the first day of class with students who would make up the last class or group in this story. Several students from previous classes were there; so were others who I have come to know from different academic and cultural activities in the University. Overall, on this first day of class, students seemed quite loose, relaxed, and very talkative. We had a very lively conversation this first day of class. I, too, felt unleashed and extremely confident. What a difference to three years ago when I was so nervous and fearful of the syllabusand curriculum-less class I was about to embark upon! I suppose by now I had developed true confidence in myself from the two previous class experiences. From the practice students and I had developed and followed, I have come to recognize (a kind of confirmation of a sort) how "bad" students had wanted and longed for a class like this one. And with this third group, I felt extremely precise and proficient to deliver, to facilitate a true stimulating intellectual experience.
