ABSTRACT
This chapter has two major emphases: on the 'stratum' or period between centuries or, as it was called by Jose Luis Romero, 1 the period corresponding to the so-called 'bourgeois' city at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries; and a spatial emphasis on the territorial, architectural and public space dimensions of Caracas's urban design and development.
