ABSTRACT
Ruth Behar is the author of Translated Woman: Crossing the Border with Esperanza’s Story (Beacon Press, 1994) and The Vulnerable Observer: Anthropology that Breaks Your Heart (Beacon Press, 1997). She is cur rently at work on an ethnographic novel, Nightgowns from Cubay and a documentary film, Adio Kerida: A Cuban Sephardic Journey. She is Pro fessor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan.
