ABSTRACT
The symbols are commonly called the 'narrow' and 'wide' signs, though in actual application, depending on the context, they may have any of the above meanings. Though different words are used, e.g. for X : 'a short step: 'a narrow position of the feet: 'a small distance from the center' (from place), the basic idea is the same; for supports it is a distance measurement.
