ABSTRACT

M. David Merrill, Professor of Educational Psychology and Technology at the University of Southern California, is an internationally recognized instructional research scientist. His work includes major theoretical positions on instructional strategies (as represented by Component Display Theory described in the chapter) and Content Structure (as represented by Elaboration Theory as described in the chapter by Charles M. Reigeluth). He has authored or coauthored 9 books related to instructional design and has authored or coauthored 10 chapters in edited books. He and his associates have completed more than 100 research studies on instructional processes, many of which have appeared in educational research journals.
