ABSTRACT

UNIT 25: DEALING WITH CONFLICT (1) M A I N FOCUS: DISCUSSING DIFFERENT WAYS OF RESOLVING A CONFLICT S I T U A T I O N Discuss the range of seriousness of possible conflict situations, ranging from two nursery children wanting to play with the same toy through to road rage and even war. Briefly bring in causes for some wars – religious intolerance, grabbing natural resources, and the 'War of Jenkins' Ear' (1739, declared after English sea captain Robert Jenkins was captured, tortured and mutilated by the Spanish). Look through the four proposed responses to conflicts and encourage debate on the advantages and disadvantages of each.
