ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the using of stories and other literature sources as a starting point for creative teaching and learning of mathematics. The Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda is about removing barriers to children’s learning and finding alternative approaches to teaching and learning that enables all children to achieve. Stories can be one way into removing those barriers for some children. In addition, with the Primary National Strategy focus on cross-curricular working, the combination of literature and mathematics is a timely consideration.
