ABSTRACT

Computer visualization technology can play an important role in the tourism industry, both in site design and management. Seeing a computer model of a project before it is built can strengthen efforts to preserve important historic sites and create new destination locations (e.g., museums, parks, and interpretive centers) (Liggett and Jepson, 1993; Boland and Johnson, 1996). Once a model exists, relevant information can be incorporated into a comprehensive database that provides tourists, operators, and planners with valuable online decision support (Brenner, 1998; Hamit, 1998; Benckendorff and Black, 2000; see also https://www.bahamas.com). In addition, this technology can clarify complex design issues and thereby provide a medium for public education, avoiding unnecessary opposition and delays caused by unclear or poorly executed ideas.
