ABSTRACT

Children face endless challenges and demands during the development process. It is the responsibility of adults who deal with children to help them adjust to these challenges and demands.

An increasing sentiment exists among many young men and women of high school and college age that they need to find themselves. This should fortify the notion that one of the most important aspects of the “growing up” years is that children develop an understanding of themselves. This can be accomplished to some extent when adults improve upon their own knowledge of growing children. Perhaps more important, adults must be prepared to use this knowledge as children grow and develop. This is the major focus of this chapter.
