ABSTRACT

There have been many theories about the way in which development takes place and what impacts upon children to influence their development or rate of development. Some of these theories have been touched upon in this chapter, with links to specific moments in Jasmine's development or an alternative example provided where applicable. However, this book is not intended to provide indepth discussion of psychology and related issues, so for readers who wish to explore the theories further, an easily accessible text on developmental psychology would be Cullis et al.'s Psychology for You (Nelson Thomes, 1999) or Cara Flanagan's Applying Psychology to Early Child Development (Hodder & Stoughton, 1996).
