ABSTRACT

Companies are actors in society and they observe and are themselves observed by other actors around them. Many actors in society may be considered stakeholders of the company, because what the company does matters to them, directly or indirectly. This relationship is often reciprocal, that is, what stakeholders do may also affect the company’s actions. When a company launches a new service, establishes a unit to guarantee the quality of a service or obtains a certificate of high quality service, it all matters to stakeholders. Similarly, if an advocacy group pushes for information about working conditions in a production facility, this is something the company has to deal with.
