ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter we identified two different rent-creating mechanisms within the resource-based logic. Under the Ricardian perspective (as codified in the resource-based view) resource picking is the main source of economic rents. Under the Schumpeterian perspective (as codified in the dynamic capability view) capability building is the main source of economic rent. For Makadok (2001: 389) this distinction ‘cuts directly to the core of the rent creation process’.
