ABSTRACT

While something of a cliché, it is nonetheless true that Idaho is a long way from Washington, D.C. – a long way indeed. In fact, most observers would suspect that Idahoans usually allow their elected officials a free hand in terms of foreign policy, preferring to concentrate on domestic issues. Nothing could be further from the truth. A look at how Idahoans viewed Senator Frank Church’s chairmanship of the Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities (1975-76) provides an excellent opportunity to show otherwise.
