ABSTRACT

This chapter first describes how the empirical study was conducted. The main emphasis is on how the case innovations were developed and on the degree and international scope of customer-related proactiveness in each development process. Unless otherwise stated, the descriptions are based on the information given in the interviews and on discussions and correspondence (Appendix 2), and complemented and verified by means of secondary and company documents (Appendix 3). Although the detailed analysis of each innovation process covers the period up to 2002, it also gives information on how the resulting innovation has fared since then.
