ABSTRACT

The main objective of this book has been to critically examine the most pressing issues for developing countries at the intersection of multilateral trade liberalization and ever-increasing environmental concerns. Presenting the perspective of developing countries in the development of the trade and environment debate has been a primary objective. Through examination of numerous international law issues it is an unequivocal conclusion of this book that the current treatment of trade-environment issues is inseparably entwined with the economic, social and political construction of the current dominant world system and consequently has resulted in major conflicts of interests between many states and other actors.
