ABSTRACT
The 1980 U.S. Census Bureau officially recognized the term “Asian Indians,” a subcategory of “Asian and Pacific Islander Americans” (Dutta, 1980, 1982). The term, “Asian Indian”, refers to people of the Indian subcontinent and is used to distinguish people of India from other “Indian” groups, such as Native Americans and people of the West Indies.
