The characteristics needed to be a successful entrepreneur are very different from those required as the CEO of a mature business. It is unusual to find an individual who has both sets of skills. Entrepreneurs from Bill Gates to Stelios Haji-Iannou have, at a particular stage of business growth, stepped aside to allow a more fitting CEO to take over.
