ABSTRACT
The author’s recent work (Modelski and Thompson, 1996) indicates that today’s students of economics pay less than appropriate attention to three problem areas:
1 the very long-range analysis of the world economy; 2 the all-pervasive role of innovation; and 3 the “human ecology” links between the economy, politics, society, and
culture.
