ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores whether a political economy of communication is compatible with an Actor-Network Theory (ANT) approach. It deals with how computational methods of network analysis might be useful to a political economic critique of Alphabet, and illustrates how Alphabet accumulates power and wealth in capitalism. The book discusses what extent the analysis has shown the compatibility of a political economy of communication with ANT. It suggests that the economic expansion of Alphabet depends on the infinite expansion of time. The book explains the reason why Alphabet employees—most of them highly educatedtolerate work inequities and job segregation in the workplace is because of cultural beliefs. It explains how power circulates in networks of corporate ownership, board of directors, and lobbying by examining the relations that connect individuals, organizations, and congressional bills together.
