ABSTRACT

This chapter contains the testimony given by the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro at the Havana Tripartite Conference concerning the Missile Crisis held in January 1992. In the testimony, Castro presents personal reflections and thoughts on the cause, development and end of the crisis, as well as on the personalities of John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev. Thus, the chapter offers the reader a direct insight into how the Cuban authorities were reasoning before, during and after the crisis, and how Castro, 30 years after the crisis, considered his own role and decisions during this dangerous historical moment.
