ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the forms of expression and representation with which contemporary literatures in English are currently responding to the emergence of a new cultural paradigm. It addresses the concept of Transmodernity and the paradigm shift it entails with respect to Modernity and Postmodernity. The book describes the role of ethics in Transmodernity from different though complementary perspectives. It also addresses the effects of the Transmodern paradigm on the renewal of the articulations of identity and its relationship with space, femininity, and poetics of the self respectively. The book offers an in-depth analysis of the concept of Transmodernity, mostly as theorized by Rodriguez Magda and Enrique Dussel, focusing both on the limitations and opportunities with which they provide countercultural movements.
