ABSTRACT

India has the largest population of emigrants in the world, but temporary migration between the EU and India has not been very significant, though it is increasing lately. The Indian diaspora is skilled and economically well off, and can help the EU meet the twin challenges of shrinking markets and an ageing workforce. India can be a potential source of quality manpower for not only the IT sector but many others including healthcare, construction, research and development and the services sector. It is imperative that India and the EU frame policies that facilitate orderly migration and better movement of people given India’s demographic dividend, global footprint and structural economic change.
