ABSTRACT

Introduction Generally, loss-prevention, security, and safety directors are not familiar with criminal and civil litigation processes. Nevertheless, many of those who enter the private security and safety field originate from the public sector. These individuals are much more familiar with criminal litigation, but rarely have experience in civil liability and litigation. The following narrative will explain these processes, and why those professionals in loss prevention and safety must be aware not only of criminal prosecution, but how civil litigation could seriously affect a business or institution.
