ABSTRACT

Pre-Litigation Preserving the Scene and Physical Evidence In any serious crime, the local police jurisdiction, or in some cases federal law enforcement authorities, will become involved in the investigation and in preserving evidence at the crime scene. The forensic units of these agencies will have the expertise and necessary equipment to efficiently handle the task. In any catastrophic incident where death, injury, and damage are prevalent, these agencies will determine whether a crime was committed or if the occurrence was an accidental or natural disaster. They will have complete control of the scene of occurrence until they authorize the company to enter the scene and begin the recovery and restoration processes. The loss-prevention manager and his or her subordinates, along with company personnel, should assist and fully cooperate with these agencies.
