In choking, there is blockage of the internal airways. 1. Homicides are rare. Usually they involve cases in which a gag
is rammed in the mouth of a burglary or robbery victim in order to keep them quiet. The assailant does not realize that the victim is going to choke to death. The authors have seen deliberate cases of homicide by choking. In one, a pacifier was rammed into the throat of a young child.
