ABSTRACT

This definition of what pharmacists can, should, and will be doing is another attempt by the profession’s leadership to state simply what direction the profession should be taking. This phrase is crafted under assumptions about what the market will support, assign value to, and, ultimately, for what it will compensate pharmacists. Fortunately, society has supported the value-added benefits of its pharmacists, but unfortunately it believes the services should be offered at no charge. Pharmacy has not been a complacent profession, however, and some of its risk-taking members have initiated and acted on new thinking about their business models.
