ABSTRACT

When acting for the police and hence the prosecution, it is important to consider the merits of all submissions. Your £ndings at the scene of the incident, the post mortem (if appropriate), the examination of casework exhibits, and in particular the mechanical condition of the £rearm involved, should all be used by you to see if any of the claims bears scrutiny before writing your witness statement. In turn, you will have to answer technical questions during your cross-examination, and you will also have to give due consideration to the submissions made by your opposite number and any other expert witness, or self-professed expert witness, providing pertinent evidence to the court. “e jury will take account of all of this information before making their verdict.
